Modern Dance

Ages 8+

Versatility Through Modern Dance

Our school is structured in progressive divisions, giving dancers of every age the opportunity to grow with confidence, artistry, and proper technique. From their first plié to advanced training, each level builds thoughtfully toward the next.

The Modern Program introduces dancers to a range of styles influenced by the techniques of José Limón, Merce Cunningham, and contemporary dance. By blending these approaches, our students develop versatility, strength, and expressive movement that enhance their ballet foundation.

Class Offerings

Modern I

Introduction to modern dance concepts for ages 8+. Focus on rhythm, pathways, energy, and expressive movement in a supportive environment.

Modern II

Builds on Modern I with increased technical depth, exploring Limón and Cunningham-based techniques while continuing to expand artistry and creativity.

Modern III

Advanced training that integrates modern, contemporary, and ballet principles, preparing dancers for performance opportunities and continued study.

Modern is available to dancers ages 8 and up as an elective, and enrollment in Ballet Technique classes is required to ensure that each dancer’s training remains rooted in strong classical foundations while giving them the freedom to explore new ways of moving.

The Value of Modern Training

Modern dance complements ballet training by encouraging dancers to think beyond traditional lines and shapes. It builds strength, flexibility, and artistry while helping students discover new ways of expressing themselves through movement. For parents, it means a well-rounded education in dance — one that supports classical technique while sparking creativity and confidence.
